A Jazzman’s Blues

There was something about this film that just felt different. It’s your classic typical Tyler Perry storyline but it had an extra edge. The time era, the setting and most importantly the music. The jazz brings that energy to the story.

A movie with all the TP ingredients. A story about love with numerous obstacles around greed, race, family and community. Movie carries a heavy message around the blurred lines with racial recognition and how far the views have come. Some standout displays from lesser known up and coming actors alongside some veterans. Although jazz is a key factor in both story and marketing I do feel it was underutilised, could have been more but the little there was I enjoyed.

An interesting barrage of plot twists, some ad up well others don’t but it’s refreshing to see TP try new things cos there were many scenes I thought Madea would pop up ?

Overall a good watch. It won’t be memorable as there weren’t many wow moments so although worth a watch, easily forgettable. A cold Saturday night with a date? Give it a watch.
